Thank you Kemptown!

What a fantastic return for the Kemptown Carnival! There a lot of people to send thanks to….here we go!

On behalf of myself and the Kemptown Carnival CIC, we would like to thank the local residents, businesses and community groups of Kemptown that welcomed so many people into their neighborhood for a wonderful day of celebration.

We would like to send our deepest gratitude and thanks to our partners at the Brighton Palace Pier, whose generous and steady support enabled the Carnival to return this year.

A huge thank you to Arts Council England who helped fund five new brilliant processional carnival arts projects; Danca de Vento, Nomadic Sound System/Visual Poets, Barnacles, Euphoria and Unified Rhythm. To all those project partners…you were amazing!

Thanks to our arts partners – Dan Bernstein at Emergency Exit Arts, Stephanie and Charles at Mandinga Arts, Jack and Edi from New Generation Jazz, and Copperdollar Studios.

A big thank you to our local sponsor Sure Property Solutions who supported the brilliant acts on the Sure Stage for all those enjoying the Green by the Table Tennis club.

It was wonderful to have the participation of local churches St Mary’s, St Johns, and St George’s, and the Brighton Table Tennis Club who all opened their doors to the public, supported our parade logistics, hosted choirs, our popular children’s area, and provided space for participating artists and our many volunteers.

A MAHOOSIVE thanks to all the participating artists and performers who set the tone and make the magic happen. Truly outstanding talent that inspired everybody throughout the entire day!

Well done to the many makers, craftspeople, chefs and foodies in attendance and those local businesses serving up some great food that kept everyone spoiled for choice.

A big shout out to all of the stage technicians and crews who held everything together and did an outstanding job supporting over 200 artists! Big up to Mat Benzie and the gang, Dende Sound and Good Times Music, Penguin Media, 1BTN and the Disco Bug, Party Trike, Sonic Safari, Roots Garden, and New Generation Jazz crew.

An extra special thanks to our amazing volunteers some of whom have been working with us for months, some of whom worked tirelessly on the day – you made all the difference and put in huge amounts of time and effort to make the carnival happen! Thank you!

We are very lucky to have had a fantastically professional and dedicated operations teams to look after the production and safety at Carnival. Thank you to Ian (Whiskey Bravo Production), Grant (Triple A Security), Dylan (Penguin Media Solutions), Paul (Epione Medical), Linda (TTK Welfare), and Adam F (production control master).

Our gratitude goes to Sussex Police and Brighton and Hove City Council who have shown great diligence, support and advice over the last year.

I would like to thank Councillor Nancy Platts, Councillor Gill Williams, Councillor Sameer Bagaeen and MP Lloyd Russel-Moyle for your kind support of the Carnival and for recognising the importance and true value of our city’s cultural and community events.

I would also like to give many thanks to the Kemptown Carnival CIC directors. Local residents Clare and Adrian have dedicated so much time and energy to overseeing the development and stability of the new governing Carnival organisation over the last two years. They have done an outstanding job and have had the unenviable task of putting up with me. Thank you both for your commitment, patience and for getting the Carnival back on track.

And last but by no means least, THANK YOU from all of the Carnival team to all of you that came along and enjoyed the Carnival fun in the sunshine! And to everyone who has supported our fundraising events throughout the year.

We hope to bring Kemptown Carnival back next year and we would like to ask for your support! The Carnival is a free to attend event and a big one to finance. If you can help us reach our crowdfunder target please donate whatever you can afford by June 7th!

Once again, many thanks to all and everyone involved. Kemptown you are the best!!!
