If you would like to take part in the Kemptown Carnival 2019, we’d love to hear from you!
The Carnival is, at its heart, a community event and needs lots of volunteer support to be able to run. There are a variety of roles available on the day, from learning and work experience opportunities to artistic input to management support to most importantly enthusiasm and participation!
All roles take place on June 1st, some all day and some in shifts. There will also be a mandatory welcome and health and safety briefing on Saturday May 18th, afternoon.
We need two parade marshals to accompany each bloc in the parade, from samba bands to community groups. Parade marshals will be required from 9am-1pm on June 1st to ensure everyone in the parade is safe, happy and has access to water. Fancy dress and energy is a must!
Fancy Dress Fundraisers and Information
The Kemptown Carnival could not exist without donations so we are looking for teams of people to get dressed up Carnival style and wander through the crowds to sell programmes and take donations from the public. There will also be static information points situated near to stages, for Carnival goers to ask essential information and purchase programmes, so you have the option to walk around or stay static on a stall. There will be 3 shifts across the day, of 10.30am-1pm, 1-3.30pm, 3.30-6pm. Just a couple of hours can be a huge help!
Stage Craft and Management
We are looking for stage managers, sound tech assistants and artist liaisons to support our many stages and performance areas. This role will entail 3 volunteers (one for each role) supporting a professional sound technician throughout the day on each stage or performance area, so this is an all day role from 9am-6pm.
Stage managers will be responsible for the smooth running of acts and schedules and liaising between teams; a cool head and good communication is a must!
Sound technician assistants will assist a professional sound technician in ensuring high quality and accurate sound levels on one of our stages throughout the day.
Artist liaisons will be responsible for ensuring acts on a nominated stage have everything they require throughout the day, including equipment, instruments and items on their rider, and will be the main point of contact between acts and the Production team.
Experience is desirable but a can-do attitude is also great!
We are seeking support for the Production team through Production Assistants/Runners who will ensure the smooth running of the Carnival operations such as running, comms, setting up and packing down areas and crew welfare. There will 2 shifts across the day, 9am-2.30pm and 2-7pm. Many hands make light work!
We are seeking a small team of artists/ creatives to decorate the main stage and streets surrounding the Carnival. This will likely take place either the evening before or early in the morning before the Carnival starts at 11am, so be prepared for an early start! If you have a team you have worked with before, we would especially love to hear from you.
Our Volunteer Coordinator will need volunteer assistant coordinators to support the various teams of volunteers from Volunteer HQ throughout the day. There will be 2 shifts, from 9am-2.30pm and 2-7pm. If you’re great at communicating and looking out for other people, get in touch!
We are looking for people to capture events and on the day, to showcase the spectacular vibes on display! For feature on social media, press and the website. Photos will form part of our existing photo bank but will be fully credited.
To thank volunteers for their time, full refreshments will be provided throughout the day as well a special Carnival Participation goody bag!
